The Highlands Clinical Director Featured in Addiction Professional Magazine
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) December 23, 2013 -- The Highlands' clinical director was recently featured in an article in Addiction Professional magazine, published on December 16. Dr. Siegfried was interviewed by the magazine to discuss The Highlands' new flexible scheduling program.
The Highlands, which treats individuals with eating disorders and other related conditions, has begun offering more flexible hours and schedules for those in need of treatment. Rather than make clients fit into a set program schedule, The Highlands allows those participating in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) to coordinate their treatment schedule with other commitments they have in their life. With a more flexible schedule, participants are able to attend school, go to work, or maintain their other regular responsibilities.
The IOP at The Highlands provides therapy and counseling sessions to clients that are trying to get back to their normal life. “The IOP goal for clients is to get them to start living the life they want,” said Dr. Siegfried. “We want them to be able to balance our services with the life they’re creating.”
In order to meet the scheduling needs of clients, The Highlands offers treatment at different times throughout the day. Dr. Siegfried stressed, however, that the program always provides structure and stability to individuals in recovery. “It’s really important to be able to offer flexibility, but to balance that with the structure and support that’s necessary,” Siegfried told Addiction Professional. “At times, some patients need treatment to be more of a priority than their other life responsibilities.”
