The Holiday Inn Westbury - Long Island gives back to the local Long Island community, and also goes beyond borders to assist those in need during the 2014 Holiday Season
Westbury, New York (PRWEB) November 24, 2014 -- The Holiday Inn Westbury - Long Island was recently contacted by the Family and Children's Association to donate various items consisting of practical, everyday products such as soap, shampoo, mouthwash and other such items.The Association's program is aimed toward helping over 9,000 senior citizens who are home bound, living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. The items are intended to greatly enhance the well being of seniors throughout the Long Island area. The Holiday Inn Westbury along with its owners, Mr. and Mrs. Halperin and its management team were eager and quick to assist, and they donated hundreds of items to be distributed by the Association leading up to New Year's Eve. Upon meeting some of the folks from the Association, the Holiday Inn has committed to do more for them, which includes donating fresh 12 - 14 pound turkeys for Thanksgiving, which are being donated from the Holiday Inn's staff members.
The Holiday Inn Westbury - Long Island was also recently asked to donate soap and some other common hotel supplies from Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, and the Hotel gladly obliged. When asked to do so, the Holiday Inn Westbury's general manager, Franklin Manchester was quick to find out more about the organization and how they could possibly do more. He quickly spoke to his management team and the owners of the Holiday Inn Westbury, Mr. and Mrs. Barry and Ellen Halperin. All agreed they wanted and needed to do more, and from there they got the ball rolling.
The Hotel's corporate sales manager, Steff Marrero happened to have some past experience with Operation Christmas Child; therefore, Steff volunteered to turn what started out as a relatively small donation to a much more involved commitment to making a much larger impact. Steff contacted the local office of Samaritan's Purse to find out how the Hotel could become a box packing location. Steff soon had 100 boxes in hand for a packing event that took place on Friday, November 21st. The Hotel purchased over $800.00 of various gift items to fill their 100 boxes. They were able to accomplish their mission in filling boxes for boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 14 that will now be distributed to children in need from all over the world, specifically third world countries.
When Franklin was asked why the Hotel would get involved in the capacity they did, he replied, "We believe community outreach is our responsibility, and it is often an honor and a privilege to serve others. This of course extends beyond our own backyard, but true community service has no borders. I guess being in the hospitality industry has taught us that."
Steff and Franklin will be dropping their gift filled boxes off to the local Samaritan's Purse office on Monday, November 24th. When Steff was asked what motivated her, she stated, "Knowing that we have an opportunity to put a smile on children's faces is a gift in and of itself. I knew we would have the backing of the Hotel's ownership and management and we would get the job done with a team effort. We wanted to do something that has a large impact and goes beyond the ordinary. This was the perfect opportunity and season to do so."
