The Holistic Sanctuary Assails Showtime’s Portrayal of Heroin Addiction and the Use of Ibogaine on ‘Homeland’
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 26, 2013 -- The Holistic Sanctuary announces its review and criticism of Showtime’s latest episode of “Homeland” (Season 3, Episode 9; ‘One Last Time’), in which the character Nicholas Brody (played by Damian Lewis), a former U.S. Marine Sergeant and a revealed agent for al Qaeda, who is now in the protective custody of the CIA in Caracas, receives a sudden dose of Ibogaine to eliminate his addiction to heroin. The addiction, which is the result of the character’s physical isolation and depression, is a stereotypical depiction of chemical dependency – followed by cold turkey withdrawal and a scant, one-sided description of Ibogaine as a plant, which speeds up detox but gives users “violent, mind-bending hallucinations,” resulting in Brody’s attempt to stab himself to death with a shard of a broken chair.
The Holistic Sanctuary takes issue with both the scientific accuracy of this episode and the network’s failure to disclose, before or after the episode’s conclusion, that the CIA cooperates with the show, providing a liaison to answer questions about CIA culture and practices. Nor does the episode advise viewers that consulting producer Henry Bromell is the son of a CIA agent, or that the Agency sponsored Ibogaine clinical trials in the fifties, though the results of those trials have never been disclosed.
For viewers unfamiliar with the severity of heroin addiction, the episode, in the professional opinion of the expert staff at The Holistic Sanctuary, does nothing to expose the enormity of this epidemic or the proper administration of Ibogaine, alongside the customized, safe and all-natural care necessary for a patient to properly heal from the effects of long-term chemical dependency. In fact, the episode never shows how or when Brody receives the Ibogaine treatment, with no mention of the dosage or course of treatment.
In the real world, however, heroin addiction continues to be a substantial problem. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), 4.2 million Americans aged 12 or older had used heroin at least once in their lives. The same study states that least 23 percent of individuals who use heroin become dependent on it. CBS News also reports that heroin addiction among young people is on a significant rise, with 669,000 new users in 2012. Their investigation coincides with findings of increased heroin use among affluent middle-class teens, while other spikes in less wealthy communities correspond to heroin’s appeal as a cheaper alternative to pills and opioid painkillers.
The numbers are even more alarming in a state like Ohio, which is a microcosm of the nation economically and culturally, where, sadly, an average of 11 people die from heroin overdoses each week in the Buckeye State. Attorney General Mike DeWine says that Ohio had 606 heroin-overdose deaths in 2012, double the number in 2010, and the final figures for 2013 will likely exceed those reports.
For Johnny Tabaie, “Johnny The Healer,” (see also http://www.johnnythehealer.com/) the Founder of The Holistic Sanctuary, permanently ending addiction and eliminating dependency on heroin and other drugs is a safe and healthy reality, thanks to his exclusive and natural solution known as the Pouyan Method. This treatment focuses on the origins of addiction, rejuvenating and restoring brain cells to their pre-addictive state.
In addition, Johnny does not categorize or describe addiction as a lifelong, incurable disease, which requires the consumption of multiple prescription medications (which have never been tested as a single, concentration), enrollment in 12-step programs, demeaning tasks or reliance on other outdated and ineffective techniques. His powerful video testimonials from guests are unsolicited proof of his accomplishments. People can watch these inspiring stories at: theholisticsanctuary.com/Ibogaine-Videos/.
“Heroin addiction is an international crisis, worsened by conventional drug rehab centers and ignorance about the cause and severity of this condition. The most recent episode of ‘Homeland’ does nothing to expose the personal or collective effects of this dependency. The depiction of Brody is just a cheap example of the addict-as-straw-man, in which a melodramatic character, sweating and wildly thrashing about, is the alleged face of heroin addiction. As for the terse words about Ibogaine, followed by Brody’s hallucinations and botched suicide attempt, I want to remind people that the entertainment industry is no source for truth or medical accuracy. The Holistic Sanctuary understands this profound distinction, and encourages people to enjoy ‘Homeland’ for its suspense, not its science,” says Mr. Tabaie.
