The Hollywood Reporter Ranks Ringling College As One of the ‘25 Best Film Schools' Worldwide
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 15, 2013 -- The Hollywood Reporter has again ranked Ringling College as one of the 25 Best Film Schools worldwide in their annual survey, which was published August 9, 2013. The survey was conducted via an online ballot sent to members of the Writers Guild of America West, American Cinema Editors and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In addition, The Hollywood Reporter consulted industry insiders, asking them to rate film school programs worldwide.
This is the second time in three years that the Ringling College Digital Filmmaking program, which has just graduated its third class, made The Hollywood Reporter's 25 Best Film School Rankings. The Ringling Digital Film program, founded in 2006, is one of the youngest programs on the list.
According to Academy Award-winning Cinematographer Wally Pfister, who taught at Ringling College through a second consecutive grant from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, “At Ringling I was impressed by the skill levels already in evidence and the sophistication of the questions asked. This is clearly a program in its ascent and the enthusiasm of the students and staff at Ringling and the community as a whole for the filmmaking process was refreshing.”
Luminary Director and Ringling College Film program advisor Werner Herzog was interviewed for the article, acknowledging Ringling as “having the best digital effects program in the country." 2013 has been a banner year for Ringling College in the film & entertainment industry. 2011 Ringling alumnus Jason Letkiewicz received an EMMY nomination for his "I'm Positive" television campaign for MTV; two Ringling student films won Student Academy Awards for animation; "The Lucky 6" inaugural Ringling summer student feature film was shot in collaboration with The Hollywood Reporter top-ranked drama schools Florida State University/ASOLO Conservatory; “The Forever” RCAD senior thesis film directed by Ringling alumnus Sean Benson won the 2012 FMPTA “Crystal Reel Award” for Best Short made in Florida and the Gold Medal Remi Award at Houston’s WorldFest for best short film; and Ringling motion design students' work was selected as the commercial for the Sarasota Film Festival.

Adding to the distinctiveness of the Ringling College program is the Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab, founded in 2010 as a collaborative project in association with Future of Films, LLC to bring top-tier industry talent to work with students at Ringling. In the most recent school year the Filmmaking Lab brought actors Sam Rockwell, Andie MacDowell, Aubrey Plaza and Dylan McDermott to work with students. The Studio Lab is sponsored by PNC Wealth Management and Sarasota Magazine.
