The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey’s asthma management program recognized at The Salvation Army’s 150th Anniversary Celebration
Newark, New Jersey (PRWEB) June 08, 2015 -- The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, the charitable arm of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, has been honored by The Salvation Army Newark Area Services for its efforts to help children better manage, prevent and overcome the often dangerous symptoms of asthma. At its 150th Anniversary Celebration dinner last week, The Salvation Army paid tribute to the Foundation for its Breathe Easier with Asthma Management (BEAM) initiative.
Robert A. Marino, Chairman and CEO of Horizon BCBSNJ and Chairman of the Horizon Foundation, accepted the honor on the foundation’s behalf. Funded by a $500,000 foundation grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey, BEAM is providing asthma education, screening and referral services to 2,500 children ages 5-18, and their caregivers, at club sites in nine New Jersey counties where asthma is prevalent. Approximately 200 of the children being served are members The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Newark Ironbound.
“The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey shares The Salvation Army’s commitment to “Doing the Most Good” because it aligns with our Foundation’s mission of providing support to organizations that make New Jersey healthier,” Marino said.
Held at the Newark Club, the awards and presentation dinner also honored the 16 winners from The Salvation Army’s “Design-A-Bin” Arts Education Contest as well as two individuals who have made an impact in their communities. Proceeds from the event benefit The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Newark Ironbound.
