The Increasingly Popular Spartan Race to Take Place in Breckenridge, Colorado
Breckenridge, Colorado (PRWEB) May 29, 2015 -- With Memorial Day having come and gone in the mountains, the residents of Breckenridge Colorado are gearing up for Spring and with it, its first ever Spartan Race! A trend having exploded in popularity in recent years, obstacle course races have become one of the most sought after Summer activities in the US. And the Spartan Race is the world’s largest. Taking place all over the states and having franchised in 14 different countries, the creators of the Spartan Race brag its is one “designed to push your limits, test your strength and challenge your endurance.”
Defined as “a true test of will” by ESPN and declared the “Best Obstacle Race” in 2012 by Outside magazine, this extreme obstacle race has developed a loyal following. Many die hard “Spartans” work hard and travel long distances to achieve the ultimate trophy – a Trifecta medal proving completion of a Spartan Sprint, Spartan Super and a Spartan Beast all in one calendar year. At the completion of each race, competitors receive a traditional circular medal in addition to a “pie piece” equaling one third of the Trifecta medal.
Now, embarking on its 5th year since conception, one can only imagine that the steep mountainous terrain that Breckenridge has to offer will make for one of the best races yet. Competitors will “crawl, jump and swim” their way to the finish line in the two fierce races scheduled to take place on June 13, 2015. The first, the Spartan Sprint, is slated to encompass a distance of 3-5 miles and offer 20-23 obstacles throughout. The second and most difficult, the Spartan Beast, promises to offer 12-14 miles of intense treacherous mountain terrain with 30-35 obstacles along the way.
“It’s exciting!” says Sean Murphy, year round Breckenridge resident. “I’ve run obstacle races before, but this is one advertised to really push the limits. And with a beautiful backdrop like Breckenridge, I think this will be one that anyone from first time participants to those wanting to complete their ‘Trifecta’ medal will want to compete in.”
David Garrett, owner of local Vacation Rental company Ski Country Resorts, agrees. “This is a great opportunity to show off our beautiful town and its surroundings to those that maybe hadn’t considered visiting in Summer. We are known globally as a Winter destination, but Summer is truly a beautiful time here.” In support of the first (and what he hopes to be annual) Breckenridge Spartan Race, David professed he had offered to sponsor a team comprised of homeowners of the condos and homes that he manages. When questioned about the responses he’d gotten he chuckles, “Nothing yet..
