Vancouver, WA (PRWEB) December 08, 2016 -- As part of its ongoing effort to provide educational and training resources for the senior care industry, The Institute for Professional Care Education (IPCed) announced this week the release of three new caregiver courses on elder abuse.
These courses, available through IPCed’s Online Training Campus, will provide caregiving professionals an understanding of the issues and challenges related to elder abuse. Courses cover the causes and consequences of abuse, the different types of elder abuse as well as how to recognize, report and most importantly, prevent these type situations from ever happening.
Studies show that approximately 1 in 10 Americans aged 60+ have experienced some sort of elder abuse. Each year, as many as 5 million elders are abused and yet only 1 in 14 cases are ever reported to authorities1. “Abuse is not just a major problem; its an epidemic. This type of training is vitally important to ensure the safety of our patients and loved ones,” states IPCed President Sharon K. Brothers.
IPCed’s new elder abuse courses also address the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) pending requirement that nursing homes offer elder abuse prevention training by November 28, 2016.
Those interested in learning more about elder abuse training or are affected by the new CMS requirements are encouraged to contact IPCed at (877) 843-8374 and request a demonstration of their Online Training Campus.
