The International Association of Healthcare Professionals Joins Forces with the American Heart Association to Help Raise Funds for the Heart Health Campaign
New York, New York (PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- The International Association of Healthcare Professionals attended the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon, the latest event in its ongoing efforts to increase awareness of health issues afflicting women. IAHCP is honored to partner with such prominent organizations to help fight the epidemic of heart disease in women.
The Go Red for Women event, which was sponsored by the American Heart Association, Macy’s and North Shore LIJ Health, has raised more than a million dollars to fund research into heart disease and strokes in women.
Helaine Baruch, Senior Vice President, New York City, American Heart Association told IAHCP, “The event has grown tremendously, and today I am thrilled that we have over 1,300 women attending this event. We know that we are going to be able to educate 1,300 women to go home to talk to their families and friends about their risk factors and give them more knowledge about women and heart disease.”

This year’s event included prominent speakers including Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, Director of Women and Heart Disease at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital; Dr. Cynthia Haines, Chief Medical Officer of Health Day; Dr. Mary Ann McLaughlin, Associate Professor at Mount Sinai Hospital; and many others.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the US with nearly 300,000 deaths per year. Over the years, great strides in the war on heart disease have been achieved. The AHA relates that almost 34 percent fewer women now die from heart disease, and almost 23 percent more women recognize the threat that heart disease poses. The powerful work by the American Heart Association has made significant advances like encouraging women to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
