The Irish Music School of Chicago and Chief O’Neill’s Host Family-Friendly St. Patrick’s Day Events
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- The Irish Music School of Chicago and Chief O’Neill’s Restaurant and Pub announce kid-friendly events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the whole family on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 and 16, 2014.
The Little Leprechaun Family Breakfast Feast on Saturday, March 15 runs from 9am – 11:30am and the Feast of St. Patrick Family Event runs Sunday, March 16 from 2pm – 8pm. Both events will offer live traditional Irish music played while guests partake of Irish and American favorites on the buffet. Free Irish Tin Whistle lessons for children aged 6-13 will be offered at 10:30am on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. St. Patrick himself will appear on Saturday at 11am and Sunday at 4pm to judge the St. Patrick Lookalike contest where kids will compete for a chance to win a $250 gift certificate to Chief O’Neill’s. Additional activities for kids will include balloon animals, face painting and storytelling with Chief O’Neill as the Seanchaí (Irish storyteller/historian), and an Irish step-dancing demonstration on Sunday.
“St. Patrick’s Day is a great opportunity for everyone to learn about and enjoy the many fun facets of Irish culture and community,” said Sean Cleland, executive director of the Irish Music School of Chicago. “Partnering with Chief O’Neill’s to bring free traditional Irish music education to kids while also giving adults an opportunity to enjoy great food and music is the perfect combination.”
The Little Leprechaun Family Breakfast on Saturday will cost $12 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under. The Feast of St. Patrick Family Event buffet will cost $14 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under. No seating reservations will be accepted for these events.
Space is limited for the free tin whistle lessons and must be pre-registered for at http://www.irishmusicschool.org. Students may either bring their own tin whistles in the key of ‘D’, purchase one on the day of for $10, or borrow one for the duration of the class.
The Irish Music School of Chicago, a non-profit organization, preserves the living tradition of Irish music, song and dance by creating opportunities for different generations to come together, play and learn from each other. This is known as Ó Ghlúin go Glúin, or from generation to generation.
