The Jefferson Awards Foundation Partners with generationOn and One World Play Project to Generate Maximum Impact with Youth-Driven Service Projects
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 01, 2015 -- The Jefferson Awards Foundation, America’s most prestigious and longest standing organization dedicated to activating and celebrating public service, announced today the impact of its leading LEAD360 activation partnerships. Through LEAD360, the organization partners with nonprofits across the country to combat three social issues per year and in 2015 they focused on hunger and poverty, health and wellness, and education and literacy. In December, the Jefferson Awards Foundation will calculate the impact made across the country by all three 2015 LEAD360 projects. Joining the national movement, generationOn tracked over 11,000 bags of food as a part of their Make a Mark on Hunger campaign and One World Play donated over 227,000 balls, resulting in JAF’s two largest partner activations to date.
generationOn, the global youth service movement igniting the power of all kids to make their mark on the world, helped boost LEAD360 project The Future Isn't Hungry. The project, run by Hawaii teen Brittany Amano, helps feed the homeless and hungry by collecting and distributing healthy food. Sarah Fanslau, Director of Campaigns and Days of Service notes, “generationOn was proud to partner with Brittany Amano and 99 other youth leaders across the country to fight hunger as part of our ‘Make Your Mark on Hunger’ campaign this past spring. Brittany’s commitment to fighting hunger serves as a powerful example of the impact youth can have on important social problems through volunteer service. We are excited to join with the Jefferson Awards to honor Brittany’s achievements.”
One World Play Project, whose goal is to deliver play and donate ultra-durable One World Futbols to children in need across the world, helped to maximize the impact of LEAD360 project Gear Going Global. Created by Wesley Boone, GearGoingGlobal donates sports equipment to children in need across the world. One World Play Project also leveraged the project to continue their mission to build better communities and create a more positive future through play.
“With the help of organizations like generationOn and One World Play Project, we are helping to boost our youth-powered projects to a nationwide scale,” said Hillary Schafer, executive director of the Jefferson Awards Foundation. “The incredible outcome of these two partnerships demonstrates the collective power of many that we hope will inspire and empower all of us to do more and create lasting change.”
Dream Boxes, the third 2015 LEAD360 project with the idea that all kids can go to school with supplies and the encouragement they need to follow their dreams is continuing to make a significant impact not only throughout the U.S. with service projects activated nationally in cities like San Francisco and Washington D.C., but also internationally. Founder Patricia Manubay travelled to the Philippines over the summer and distributed Dream Boxes full of school supplies to a small school in the province of Laguna. After donating 50 Dream Boxes to Family Giving Tree, the largest holiday gift and backpack donation program in California, Patricia thought Family Giving Tree would be a fantastic activation partner! During Family Giving Tree's 2015 Back-to-School Drive, the organization delivered 36,000 backpacks filled with school supplies and logged their impact under LEAD360's Education and Literacy platform.
The Jefferson Awards Foundation’s LEAD360 program collects and celebrates existing impact from organizations and individuals already working in multiple areas. Ideas shared on the platform can be already active, new or inventive to tackle hunger and poverty, health and wellness and education and literacy. Through the two-step process, youth share what they care about and offer their big idea to change their community in the form of a public service project. Through LEAD360, the country chooses which ideas they want to power based on how fun and easy it is to complete. This year alone more than 5,000 projects were considered, with over 1,000,000 young people engaged.
