The John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers Announces Portion of Route 40 in Salem County Dedicated to Foundation’s Namesake
Galloway, N.J. (PRWEB) October 10, 2017 -- Seventeen years ago, Navy Ensign John R. Elliott was on his way home to New Jersey from Annapolis, Maryland for his mother’s birthday. During his trip, Elliott’s vehicle was struck by a drunk driver’s SUV and he was killed. Soon thereafter, in memory of their son John, and to ensure something like this wouldn’t happen to other families, the Elliott family established the John R. Elliott Foundation and the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers.
The Elliott family has worked tirelessly to register one million designated drivers and make naming a designated driver as natural as putting on a seatbelt.
New Jersey recently recognized the efforts of the HERO Campaign by naming a portion of route 40 in Salem County the John R. Elliott Memorial Highway.
William Elliott, John’s father and the CEO and Founder of the foundation explains how monumental this honor is to his organization saying, “We are grateful and proud that New Jersey has designated a portion of Route 40 in Salem County in memory of our son, Ensign John Elliott, USNA 2000.”
Elliott continued, “Many thanks to State Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Governor Christie and the New Jersey Legislature for making it possible; and to the Bricklayers and Ironworkers for creating the accompanying monument at milepost 15.4, east of Woodstown.”
The HERO Campaign continues to spread their message in fresh and original ways. Designated drivers were celebrated this past summer through HEROtini Mocktail Challenge where more than 250,000 people voted on their favorite fresh, non-alcoholic drink.
