The Joint Commission Awards First Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement to Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites
Canton, OH (PRWEB) September 28, 2016 -- Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites has become the first ambulatory surgical center (ASC) in the country to receive Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement by The Joint Commission. Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites, located in Canton, Ohio, is a physician-owned, multi-specialty facility, partnered with SurgCenter Development.
“Since opening its doors in December 2014, Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites has performed more than 300 joint replacement procedures,” said Jeffrey S. Dulik, DO, of Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites. “We are honored to be recognized with this first Advanced Certification from The Joint Commission for the high-quality safety and care we provided to those patients and will provide to the many more who follow.”
A study published in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery projected the demand for primary total hip arthroplasties to grow by 174% to more than 570,000 procedures and the demand for primary total knee arthroplasties to grow by 673% to nearly 3.5 million procedures between 2005 and 2030.
“Achieving Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Certification recognizes Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites’ commitment to provide care in a safe and efficient manner for patients,” said Wendi Roberts, executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, The Joint Commission. “The advanced certification will help Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites better provide coordinated and comprehensive care to patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement.”
SurgCenter Development is partnered with over 3,000 surgeons in 105 ambulatory surgery centers in the United States. Through its joint replacement programs in 19 states, 15,000 joint replacements have been performed since 2013.
The Joint Commission began accepting applications in December 2015 for a new Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The certification focuses on transitions of care from the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to the intraoperative, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical centers admission, rehabilitation activities and follow up visit with the orthopedic surgeon.
