The Lodge at Woodloch Expands Its Gardening “You-niversity”
Hawley, PA (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- As the private land surrounding the award-winning destination spa, The Lodge at Woodloch expands, so does the garden programming. Master Gardener, Alison Peck, was one of the first staff members at The Lodge at Woodloch more than seven years ago. At the time, her main purpose was to help ensure that the grounds were pristine. In addition, she created a small Chef’s Garden at the entrance of the property which has provided gourmet restaurant, TREE, with the freshest produce and herbs. The Chef’s Garden also welcomes guests in a warm, colorful and natural way. Peck’s role has since evolved as the demand for fresh ingredients has multiplied.
For the past two years, the garden program has grown with more gardens, more herbs and produce, and more guest interest. Due to growing guest interest, a plaque outside the Farm-to-Table Garden notifies guests when “the gardener is in,” providing the opportunity for one-on-one time with the expert. New classes and workshops for guests are blossoming this season, including: a Bog Talk, Companion Planting Workshop, Gardening Q&A Class, Gardeners Tools, Green Thumb Therapy, the Gardener Is In Consultations and Wildcrafting (including the wildly popular Terrarium Class).
Alison shares her passion and expertise for organic gardening practices with practical tips and recommendations that will help even novice gardeners to bloom. To help showcase the Farm-to-Table Garden at its best, The Lodge at Woodloch announced Garden Week August 2-8, 2013. Seven days full of special garden-focused programming, speakers, spa treatments, cooking demonstrations and garden cocktails.
The star seasonal spa treatment kicking off for the remainder of the harvesting season is the new Gifts from the Garden Body Treatment. This customized body treatment combines dried herbs harvested from the destination spa’s own garden and is designed to address the specific needs of each guest. The 100 minute treatments includes a consultation, scrub, bath and massage. Prior to their treatment, each guest will meet with a therapist to review all herbs that have been harvested to create a custom blend for the treatment. The guests may even use a mortar and pestle to grind the herbs into their own scrubs or herbal bath pouches. The ingredients selected by the guest will then be used in his or her treatment. Of course, which herbs are available will be completely based on Mother Nature and when the herbs are ready to be harvested from the garden.
The highlight of the week will be the intimate interaction with “Garden Celebrity” and author, Patricia Lanza the special guest speaker sharing her philosophy of Lasagna Gardening. The Garden Week Offerings Include:
