The Lodge at Woodloch is Soaring with the Eagles this Winter
Hawley, PA (PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- The Lodge at Woodloch has ramped up its eagle viewing program in response to the upswing in popularity and nod to their new 2014 program, The Big Year. Similar to the 2011 comedy, the program is based on the nonfiction book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession which was written by Mark Obmascik. The premise followed three men on a quest for a Big Year - a competition among birders to see who can see and identify the greatest number of species of birds in North America in a calendar year. The award-winning Poconos destination spa resort kicked off their Big Year the first weekend of January with a birding weekend and the outdoor adventure team has started a bird journal to identify and log the bird species on property and in the local area during their outdoor adventure outings with guests. The eagle viewing adventure has grown into a guest favorite and will kick off additional offerings during the Winter months of 2014. “It is not uncommon to see upwards of five bald eagles during scenic river tours in the pursuit of witnessing this majestic beauty” stated Josh Heath, outdoor adventure manager. “The opportunity to see our national bird in its natural element, gliding over a glistening river is truly memorable.”
Bald eagle viewing in the Pocono Mountains region is popular from December through March along the Lackawaxen River, just a few short miles from The Lodge at Woodloch. When the waters are not frozen, the rivers provide an ideal habitat of clean water with undisturbed land with lots of food and large trees to perch and nest. It is no wonder that eagles are considered spiritual messengers between gods and humans by some cultures The Lodge at Woodloch utilizes partnerships such as the Delaware Highlands Conservancy and a close relationship with the Eagle Institute to communicate about eagle spotting and activities.
The Lodge at Woodloch’s eagle viewing outdoor adventure takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 2-4:30pm. The adventure will take guests along the local rivers and estuaries. The driving tour of the local waterways with Lodge experts allows guests to spot the regal beauties in their natural environment as they migrate to Maine and Canada. Warm clothes and a camera are recommended for the scenic stops during the outdoor adventure. There is no additional charge for the eagle viewing outdoor adventure for overnight guests.
Weekend rates through March are starting from $349 per person, per night and weekday rates start at $229 per person, per night- both based on double occupancy. To learn more, call 866.953.8500.
