The London School of Business and Management (LSBM) and Leyton Sixth Form College (LSC) celebrate their academic partnership with a special awards ceremony
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 27 June 2017 -- The London School of Business and Management (LSBM) and Leyton Sixth Form College (LSC) were pleased to celebrate the first public event to commemorate their academic partnership by hosting a special awards ceremony at Leyton’s campus on 22 June 2017.
As part of the successful collaboration between the two institutions, LSC’s Business and Law students continue to have access to many unique support and financial initiatives that LSBM has tailor-made for them. These now include four areas of direct support from LSBM:
• Tailor made masterclasses
• Visits from university lecturers
• Travel bursaries (worth £341.40 per year) for all successful Leyton applicants, and a
• Scholarship scheme called the Leyton-LSBM Scholarship Award that offers two students £3000 a year each towards the cost of their course at LSBM.
The primary purpose of the partnership is to offer LSC students, who might not otherwise have the chance, a route to university level education at LSBM, by both providing practical financial support as well as encouragement to take the step up to a university education.
LSBM offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Business, Accounting and Law, awarded by the University of Northampton, and were commended in their latest independent QAA report for the enhancement of student learning opportunities.

Although the event on the afternoon of 22 June 2017 at the LSC campus in Leyton was the first official public event to mark the partnership, both Leyton and LSBM have been working together for more than 12 months.
Kevin Watson, Principal at Leyton Sixth Form College (second from the right in the HE News Post about the event on the LSBM website) had this to say about the benefits of the relationship with LSBM:
“Business is one of our most popular subjects and a great many students have benefited from the academic support gained through the masterclasses provided by LSBM. Helpful insights have also been given as to the nature of Business degree courses and the higher education experience. The generous bursaries presented tonight are the icing on a sizeable cake.”
At the special event, two Leyton students Muhammad Abdullha (pictured centre) and Muhammad Ameen Hussain (third from the right) were each awarded a special commemorative plaque to celebrate being awarded the scholarships, with senior academics including John Fairhurst, Managing Director and Academic Principal of LSBM (left of picture), friends, fellow students and family present.
A good number of applications for the scholarships were received and a selection of outstanding applicants were shortlisted based upon three areas: academic merit, financial hardship and charitable work within the community.
The two winners of the scholarships were naturally delighted to receive their awards, and will each be studying the BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management (3 Year) degree course at LSBM. Asked about what the scholarship meant to them, they had this to say:
Muhammad Abdullha
"This scholarship will really help me with my time at LSBM. As the oldest son, I have many duties at home. Including taking care of my disabled mother and my father who is not fit to work. My aims are to get an ACCA qualification and by studying accounting and finance at LSBM I will attain that goal. This all requires a lot of time and effort. By choosing me for the scholarship, this £3000 a year will help me immensely as I can organise my time more efficiently between studying, family duties and working."
Muhammad Ameen Hussain
"For a person like me, to be able to be given a chance to receive a scholarship, is one of the best things that could happen. It gives me the confidence to go after what I really want – which is to be a successful accountant – and demonstrates that I can do it, and want to make not only my family proud, but myself proud of what I can achieve. I would like to show other people who were in my position that you can do whatever you wish to, so long as you never stop pursuing your dreams."
We wish them both well for their courses and the future and expect that the success of both Muhammad Abdullha and Muhammad Ameen Hussain will help to inspire the next generation of LSC students to go to university.
Tailor made masterclasses, visits from LSBM university lecturers, scholarships and travel bursaries will continue to be on offer to LSC students and LSBM looks forward to extending out this unique programme of encouragement and financial support to other interested institutions after the tremendous success of our collaboration with LSC.
If you would like to hear more about how this collaboration is helping to bring innovative new ideas to the higher education sector, or are a college that may potentially be interested in working with us, as we have with Leyton, to together advance student participation in higher education, then please get in touch.
