The Man Behind the Legend – George Braxton from the Algonquin Resort
St. Andrews, New Brunswick (PRWEB) January 17, 2014 -- One of the first chefs at The Algonquin Resort, in the late 1800s, was the brilliant and respected Chef George F. Braxton. The Algonquin Resort is looking to honour the culinary great and learn more about the gastronomic history of the iconic resort.
“To piece together the history of The Algonquin Resort, we’re launching the Chef George Braxton Challenge,” says General Manager, Tim Ostrem. “We’d love to connect with the ancestors of Braxton's culinary team and fellow staff members who served our first generation of guests.”
Braxton is believed to be the first African-American man to lead a luxury resort kitchen and publish a cookbook. His philosophy of providing uncompromising quality continues to inspire the resort to this day, so much so, that The Algonquin named their new fine dining room Braxton's Restaurant and Bar in his honour.
As The Algonquin Resort reopens in 2014, the resort is proud to honour and pay-respect to one of the legends of their seaside resort. They’re looking forward to inviting the descendants of Braxton and his co-workers to the grand opening.
