The ManKind Project USA Supports the International Men’s Day on November 19
Springfield, MA (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- “Recognizing and taking action to support men through the transitions they are facing is essential. Mens roles have changed, and they need good tools and supportive community. The ManKind Project USA believes healthy and emotionally mature men can help heal some of our most damaging cultural problems. We see International Men’s Day as part of this evolution.” says Boysen Hodgson, the Communications Director for the 30 year old organization.
From the International Men’s Day website, the objectives of International Men's Day include a focus on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models.
“The number of men stepping up to model a new kind of masculinity is exciting. And the partnerships that happen between men and women as a result are inspiring.” said Hodgson
The ManKind Project USA supports a network of over 800 peer-facilitated men’s support groups across the country, and provides a number of training programs for men to look honestly at their lives, learn skills, and find a sense of personal purpose in the world.
The mission of the organization is to “create a world where men act on their individual and shared responsibility for the future of humanity by initiating and supporting men on a path of emotional maturity, spiritual awareness and deepening community.”
Says Hodgson, “What we have been calling ‘men’s work’ for nearly three decades is now becoming mainstream. As more and more men recognize that they are no longer locked into rigid gender roles, there is tremendous opportunity for positive cultural change.”
Coinciding with the International Men’s Day celebration and efforts connected to “Movember,” some ManKind Project USA men’s groups are taking time this week to set their intentions for the coming year, to lay the groundwork for their efforts to support men and take on service projects in the community. In the coming year the organization hopes to add 40 chartered men’s community locations in the USA, in addition to running over 125 weekend or day long training programs.
