Aspen, Co. (PRWEB) March 05, 2014 -- Michele Nelson Bass has joined The Matthew C Ferguson Law Firm, P.C. as Counsel. Ms. Bass has lived full-time in Aspen for seventeen years and is an accomplished civil trial lawyer with successful litigation experience in state and federal courts in numerous states. She has practiced law for twenty-four years and is admitted to the bars in California, Hawaii and Colorado. Her practice areas include: commercial/business disputes, professional negligence, product liability, wrongful death/personal injury, intellectual property, employment law, construction, real estate development and appellate practice.
Ms. Bass graduated from UCLA after spending a semester abroad studying public policy at Cambridge University, England. Michele Bass graduated from University of Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law with honors. She was the Primary Editor of the inaugural issue of The Transnational Lawyer Law Journal, and won the American Jurisprudence Award in International Business Transactions.
Ms. Bass interned for United States Department of Justice, Washington D.C. in the Appellate Section of the Antitrust Division, and with The Honorable Raul Ramirez in the United States District Court, Eastern District of California.
From 1991-1995, Michele was the first associate in the boutique litigation firm of Lesser & Associates, P.C. in Redondo Beach, CA with a specialized focus in the defense of recreational scuba diving cases. She is a passionate scuba diver.
In 1995 Ms. Bass moved to Colorado and worked as a lawyer for the Law Offices Herbert S. Klein in Telluride and Aspen from 1995-1998.
From 1998 to 2013 Ms. Bass enjoyed a fascinating career as a trial and litigation lawyer in cases involving product liability and intellectual property with international clients in the far east.
Michele Bass won the National Law Journal Top Defense Verdict of the Year in 2004 after defending dive equipment manufacturer, AquaLung, in a multi-million dollar scuba diving product liability four week jury trial in Santa Barbara, CA Superior Court. She also won a unanimous decision from the Colorado Supreme Court in 2002 when she and co-counsel represented David Cooper against the Aspen Skiing Company. That case, Cooper v. The Aspen Skiing Company, 48 P.3d 1229 (Colo. 2002) resulted in the Colorado legislature broadening the scope of the Ski Safety Act to further protect ski area operators in Colorado.

Ms. Bass is married to Raifie Bass, a real estate broker with Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Real Estate, and has two young sons, Max, 12, a 7th grader at Aspen Middle School and Andy, 9, a 3rd grader at Aspen Elementary School.
