The Mensa Foundation Investigates Crime Scene Intelligence
Arlington, Texas (PRWEB) June 26, 2014 -- The Mensa Education & Research Foundation will host its most popular colloquium yet, “Colloquium 2014: Crime Scene Intelligence,” on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Sheraton Boston in Boston, Mass. from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The event is sold out.
The Foundation will present an outstanding panel of experts working on the cutting edge of forensic science. “The Colloquium is an integral part of the work that we do at the Foundation,” said Foundation President, Dave Remine. “To be able to provide an event that allows our members, as well as the public, to explore specific topics with the brightest minds in that field is just one of many ways we help engage and encourage knowledge seekers.”
This year’s speakers are acclaimed forensic anthropologist and best-selling author Kathy Reichs; leading forensic scientist and mitochondrial genome researcher Rhonda Roby; Forensic psychologist Jeff Kieliszewski; Executive Director of Forensic Sciences and Professor at Texas Southern University Ashraf Mozayani; and one of the leading forensic artists in the United States, Harvey Pratt.
Forensic anthropologist and author Kathy Reichs will explore the theory and technology of anthropological forensics, the processes involved in that work and the natural desire to offer conjecture in place of deduction. Rhonda Roby will discuss the validation of historical facts using DNA. Dr. Roby's extensive work includes working on the identification of Tsar Nicholas II and the Romanov family.
Clinical psychologist Jeff Kieliszewski will present and discuss scientific research pertaining to juvenile offender competency and culpability, including the legal aspects involved in these types of cases, forensic approaches to assist courts in making determinations and the political and systems practicalities of working with these types of cases.
Forensic toxicology expert Ashraf Mozayani will provide an overview of the forensic toxicological process, illustrating that process by discussing three actual cases from her personal files. The discussion will spotlight the role of the toxicologist in ensuring that the court system receives fair and unbiased scientific information on which to base a final decision.
Forensics artist Harvey Pratt will discuss his work on witness description drawings and soft tissue reconstructions, which have led to thousands of arrests and hundreds of identifications of unidentified human remains throughout America.
