The Mission Continues & PNC Bank Join Forces to Refurbish Ferguson/Florissant Early Childhood Center
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- The Mission Continues, a national non-profit organization that empowers veterans to serve their country in new ways, will join together with employees from PNC Bank and other community volunteers to conduct a major service project in St. Louis on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
More than 100 St. Louis area PNC Bank employees will work alongside Unites States military veterans, The Mission Continues team and community volunteers to provide much-needed renovation work to an early childhood building in the Ferguson/Florissant School District. The district serves more than 11,000 children in the local area. The project, which runs from noon to 5 p.m., will focus on landscaping, building raised gardening beds, clean up and repair of the playground storage shed, and painting walkways. The outcome of the project will have a lasting effect on the lives of families and staff served by the school.
The location was selected to celebrate 11 years of PNC Grow Up Great, the company’s $350 million, multi-year, school readiness program. Through Grow Up Great, PNC has been a consistent voice for the importance of quality early childhood education — awarding grants, championing the cause, supporting the creation of educational resources and employee volunteerism.
Fueled by the deep belief that veterans are among this country’s greatest assets, The Mission Continues has empowered thousands of post-9/11 veterans to focus their talents and energy to tackle challenges facing us at home.
"The Mission Continues is excited to partner with PNC for a third year to help strengthen a school district that is committed to educating and empowering children in St. Louis,” said Meredith Knopp, senior vice president of programs with The Mission Continues. “Through PNC’s committed volunteer efforts, and the team at The Mission Continues, we are excited to foster a safe and vibrant place for the families who benefit from Ferguson/Florissant's early childhood center programs.”
Continuing its long history of respect and appreciation for the United States Armed Forces through hiring and retention initiatives, scholarship opportunities and a specialized military lending business, PNC has created a culture that supports those who have served in the military.
“Early childhood education is the key to unlocking the potential of every child and starting them on a path to success in life,” said Michael Scully, PNC regional president of St. Louis. “PNC recognizes the importance of supporting early learning for the long-term benefit of the children and our community. By working alongside The Mission Continues and local veterans, we are able to help create a place to learn, play and grow for our local children.”
