The Mission Continues, PNC Bank to Host Community Service Project to Refurbish Grace Hill Early Childhood Development Center
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- The Mission Continues, a national non-profit organization that empowers veterans to serve their country in new ways, will join together with employees from PNC Bank and other community volunteers to conduct a major service project in St. Louis on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
More than 75 St. Louis area PNC Bank employees will work alongside Unites States military veterans, Mission Continues staff, and community volunteers to provide much-needed renovation work to Grace Hill Settlement Houses in north St. Louis. The project is being coordinated by a team of local veterans—all members of The Mission Continues St. Louis Platoon—led by Marine Corps veteran Trevor O'Rourke. This facility provides comprehensive child development services to low- and moderate-income families in the area. The project, which runs from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., will focus on landscaping, repainting the gymnasium, building planter’s boxes for a community garden, and clearing nearby parking lots. The outcome of the project will have a lasting effect on the lives of the families and staff.
This location was selected to celebrate the bank’s 10th anniversary of PNC Grow Up Great , the company’s $350 million, multi-year signature philanthropic initiative focusing on early childhood education and school readiness. Through Grow Up Great, PNC has been a consistent voice for the importance of quality early childhood education — awarding grants, championing the cause, supporting the creation of educational resources, and volunteering.
Fueled by the deep belief that veterans are among this country’s greatest assets, The Mission Continues has helped thousands of post-9/11 veterans focus their talents and energy to tackle challenges facing us at home.
"The Mission Continues is thrilled to partner with PNC for a second year to help strengthen an organization that is dedicated to the children of St. Louis – the future of our city. Through PNC’s committed volunteer efforts, we are excited to join together to support the families that are positively impacted by the programs and staff at Grace Hill," said Meredith Knopp, Vice President of Programs with The Mission Continues
Continuing its long history of respect and appreciation for the United States Armed Forces through hiring initiatives, scholarship opportunities, and a specialized military lending business, PNC Bank has created a culture that supports those who have served in the military.
“Success in the military and success at PNC Bank are both reliant on motivated, highly-engaged people working as cohesive teams to achieve objectives and accomplish missions,” said Michael Scully, PNC Bank regional president in St. Louis. “Children from undeserved communities typically start first grade 18 months behind and never catch up because of the resources it would take for them to do so. Engaging our employees to work alongside The Mission Continues and local veterans in a day of service, so that every child has a place to learn, play, and grow is completely aligned with our core values as a company.”
“The surest, most-effective way to provide children with the opportunity to rise above their circumstances is to create a pathway to success through early childhood education,” Scully said.
