The National Law Journal Names Personal.com's Josh Galper a ‘Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Trailblazer’
Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- Personal.com announced today that Josh Galper, the company’s chief policy officer and general counsel, was named a 2015 Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. Galper will be honored with other recipients tonight at ALM’s CyberSecure event in New York City.
The award recognizes 50 leaders in the United States who have advanced and innovated cybersecurity and data privacy within the legal profession and who, according to The National Law Journal, have “shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way.”
A member of Personal’s executive team since joining the company in 2011, Galper also serves as chief privacy officer, co-leader of the security team, and head of public policy and regulatory issues as well as business development. The award recognizes Galper’s leadership and contributions to advancing Personal’s unique legal, privacy and business architecture of providing users with control over their data within a privacy- and security-by-design platform.
“Cybersecurity and data privacy must be a team sport, which means lawyers, developers and IT staff, business leaders, and public policy experts all need to work closely together,” Galper said. “This Trailblazer program recognizes that lawyers who think and work across disciplines with their colleagues in any organization will do the best job of protecting their company’s data and customers.”
Galper's legal career spans the intersection of law, policy, technology, and business. He was one of the first lawyers in the privacy group at Sidley Austin in 2000. Before coming to Personal, Galper was a partner in the Washington office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was the co-leader of the Public Strategies and Crisis Management Practice Group, focusing on high-profile controversies, investigations and litigation for clients in the U.S. and abroad, including many internet and tech clients.
Galper also has a background in politics and public service, including in the U.S. Senate and on presidential, congressional and state campaigns. Currently, Galper serves as an appointed member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee, which advises the DHS secretary and privacy office on agency programs, technology and policies. He has been recognized as a Privacy by Design Ambassador and in 2015 was named a top Washington, D.C. corporate counsel by the Association of Corporate Counsel-National Capital Region and Bisnow.
