The National Museum of Mathematics (MoMATH) Kicks Off Global Math Week with the Global Math Project and a Symposium
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 13, 2017 -- Renowned Mathematicians James Tanton, Po Shen Loh, Henry Segerman, Cathy Seeley, and Paul Zeitz to Participate in Free MoMath-GMP Symposium at NYU’s Courant Institute on Saturday, October 7
The National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath), in partnership with the Global Math Project (GMP), announces a free symposium and celebration to kick off Global Math Week. This symposium, “Uplifting Mathematics for All: Providing a coherent, joyful story-line to the K-12 mathematics experience both in and out of the classroom,” will be held at NYU’s Courant Institute on Saturday, October 7, from 8 am – 4 pm, and will feature some of the world’s most renowned mathematicians, math educators, and math outreach leaders discussing critically-needed innovations and new approaches in math education.
The MoMath symposium will include James Tanton's "mind-blowing" Exploding Dots workshop, lively panel discussions, and a series of 15-second "Ignite" speed talks. Presenters include a broad group of leading mathematicians, math educators, and math outreach leaders, such as Po Shen Loh, coach of USA gold-medal-winning IMO team, Henry Segerman, researcher in 3D geometry and topology, Cathy Seeley, former president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Paul Zeitz, Chairman of the Board of Proof School. The symposium is offered free of charge, thanks to the support of the Overdeck Family Foundation, Two Sigma, OppenheimerFunds, McGraw-Hill, Gerry Ohrstrom, and Dexter Senft.

Our goal is to ensure that both curricular and extra-curricular mathematics work hand-in-hand to provide an uplifting, meaningful experience for all.”
After the Saturday symposium, all registrants and attendees are invited to a free celebration at MoMath from 7:30-9:30 pm. Guests can experience more than three dozen engaging math exhibits as well as get a chance to mingle with some of the nation’s top names in mathematics.
The next morning, on Sunday, October 8, MoMath is open to the public free of charge from 10 am – 1 pm, courtesy of OppenheimerFunds. John Conway, renowned Princeton mathematician, will be on hand from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and from 2 pm to 4 pm to meet and chat with visitors to the Museum.
