The New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network Kicks Off the 2nd Annual Tremé Culture Fest with the “Tremé Gumbo Battle” Contest
New Orleans, Louisiana (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- The New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network Kicks Off the 2nd Annual Tremé Culture Fest with the “Tremé Gumbo Battle” Contest
Few things signify the soul of New Orleans like good food and community -- and Tremé is steeped in both. This week the New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network announced a Tremé Gumbo Battle contest as part of the countdown to the Tremé Culture Fest.
Featured exclusively on WWL-TV and wwltv.com, the Tremé Gumbo Battle will give one hometown cook top bragging rights for the “best gumbo” in New Orleans, as well as a $1,000 cash prize.
From September 24 to October 4 the best home cooks can visit wwltv.com for a link to the Tremé Culture Fest Facebook page. They can upload a 2-minute video to the page explaining why their gumbo is the best. The three contestants with the most “likes’” will be invited to the New Orleans School of Cooking on October 18 to cook for a panel of celebrity judges. The Tremé Gumbo Battle will be shown live on the WWL’s Eyewitness Morning News.
“In New Orleans Gumbo represents so much more than food. It’s family, community, and the mix of all the things that make New Orleans unlike any other place in the world,” said Toni Rice, President of the New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network. “There is no better way to kick off the Tremé Culture Festival than with a celebration of the local people that add that flavor and personality to the iconic dish that is so tied into the soul of Tremé and New Orleans.”
The Tremé Culture Fest will include a two-day lecture series, Neighborhood Stroll and Bar Hop, gallery and exhibit showings, and music from the surrounding areas. The schedule also includes a Day of Service that will include volunteer opportunities throughout the Tremé neighborhood. The festival begins October 18 and will culminate on Sunday October 20 with the Jazz Mass and Tremé United All-Women Second Line through the area.
