The North America Office of Duesseldorf Tourism and Duesseldorf Airport Announce: New Ballet “b.20 – Deep Field” at Opera House Duesseldorf Premiers in Spring 2014
Düsseldorf, Germany (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- The new ballet “b.20 – Deep Field” is an exploration in dance and music of the scale of human life and its struggles, emotions from experiences within earthly boundaries, and a reflection on the vastness of the cosmos created by award-winning choreographer Martin Schläpfer, Director and Chief Choreographer at Ballet on the Rhine in Düsseldorf and Duisburg.
Martin Schläpfer is a former dancer with the Royal Ballet School in London who won the Prix de Lausanne as best Swiss dancer in 1977 and became one of the most charismatic soloists at the Basel ballet where he remained for ten years. In 1994, he was appointed Director of the Bern ballet, and many of his choreographies were filmed for television. In 2009, he accepted the post of Director at Ballet on the Rhine Düsseldorf/Duisburg, whose ensemble was nominated “Company of the Year” by tanz magazine after only one season under his direction, and Schläpfer proclaimed “Choreographer of the Year.” He has since won many major international prizes, and Ballet on the Rhine was again nominated “Best Company” in 2013.
Schläpfer has found a suitable partner for his latest piece in Hölszky, whom he calls a “kindred soul.” Both Hölszky and Schläpfer are known for creating music and movement, respectively, that reflect the vibrations of our times with all the dangers and contradictions, along with the range of emotions humans feel in today’s world. Schläpfer calls Hölszky’s musical scores “landscapes though whose heights and depths we can walk.” In b.20 he explores the opportunity to create a stronger link between two art genres.
b.20 is a full-length ballet piece. Members of the Düsseldorf Symphonic and guest musicians under Wen-Pin Chien will perform, and the West German Radio Choir. Stuttgart-based artist rosalie will provide stage design with the emotion-packed lighting art she is known for.
