Nestled high up in the northern reaches of the Santa Cruz Mountains and surrounded by historic vineyards, Monte Bello offers guests an unparalleled opportunity to experience exceptional single-vineyard wines including the Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon.
The two-hour private tasting experience includes a tour of the vineyard where guests will see the petite verdot, merlot, and cabernet vines, as well as the historic knoll covered with 66-year-old cabernet sauvignon vines. A dedicated host presents a customized five-wine flight and library pour of Monte Bello, which also includes the most current vintage. A plated cheese and tapenade plate completes the experience.

In February 2016, the 2012 Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon took top honors during a 40th anniversary blind tasting that included current vintages of the 10 original red wines from the Judgment of Paris. Winemaker tasting notes for the 2012 Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon: “Saturated ruby. Ripe cassis, blackberry, violets, licorice, wet stone, oak spice. Strong blackberry fruit on entry; superb full body; structured, velvety tannins; toasty oak; crushed-limestone minerals; long, intense finish.”
In 1886, the initial plantings of the Monte Bello Estate Vineyard were set out and winery construction begun. A first vintage from the young vines followed in 1892. During Prohibition, the vineyard was not fully maintained; some vines survived into the late 30s, but by the 1940s they were effectively abandoned. Eight acres of cabernet sauvignon were replanted in 1949 and these were the source of the first Ridge Monte Bello (1962). Since then, the historic vineyards on the ridge have gradually been replanted.
