The Official PFA Facebook page of Jordan Henderson see's substantial growth spike ahead of Liverpool's Merseyside derby against Everton, says Digital Sports Group
(PRWEB UK) 23 November 2013 -- Jordan Henderson is a young Liverpool midfielder already receiving full England recognition.
He was brought to Anfield in June 2011 having risen through the youth ranks at Sunderland, a club he joined aged seven.
The youngster made his first-team debut for the Black Cats against Chelsea in November 2008 after helping the club to successive U18s league titles.
The second half of his breakthrough season was spent on loan at Championship side Coventry and it wasn't until 2009-10 that fans at the Stadium of Light really saw what he was capable of. Henderson totalled 38 appearances during the campaign and was crowned Sunderland's Young Player of the Year.
He would retain the title in 2010-11, a season which brought a first international cap. It was Fabio Capello who handed him a Three Lions debut at the age of 20 in a friendly with France in November 2010, though afterwards he would return to the U21 fold to wear the captain's armband.
Henderson left Sunderland with a tally of five goals from 79 appearances - though he would soon be reunited with his former teammates as they visited Anfield for his debut on August 13, 2011.
While operating in the centre for much of his young career, our new No.14 spent most of his first season at Anfield on the right of midfield. Still, he managed to display his undoubted technical abilities with a sublime assist for Luis Suarez in a Carling Cup win at Stoke and with goals against Bolton and Chelsea. He would also play a key role as we collected a trophy, starting the Carling Cup final win over Cardiff City.
The campaign ended on a high for Henderson as he was called into the England squad for Euro 2012 by new boss Roy Hodgson following an injury to Frank Lampard. He made two substitute appearances as the Three Lions reached the quarter-finals, where they lost on penalties to Italy.
Henderson continues to rotate between senior and U21 England squads and in February 2013 was voted as England U21 Player of the Year for 2012 by supporters following an online vote.
