The PGA of America and Kohler Co. announced Appointments for the 2020 Ryder Cup
Kohler, Wis. (PRWEB) July 12, 2016 -- The PGA of America and Kohler Co. announced today the appointment of Herb and Natalie Kohler as Honorary Chairs and David Kohler as General Chair of the 2020 Ryder Cup.
The 2020 Ryder Cup will be held at Whistling Straits, the first United States public-access course since 1991 to host golf’s most compelling event. It brings together the finest tour professionals from the United States and Europe in match play competition.
Destination Kohler has hosted six Major Championships in the last 18 years, the most of any resort or venue in the world during that span of time. The PGA of America has conducted three memorable PGA Championships at Whistling Straits: 2004 (won by Vijay Singh), 2010 (Martin Kaymer) and 2015 (Jason Day). The 2004 and 2015 championships established at the time respective benchmarks for highest ticket and corporate hospitality sales in PGA Championship history.
“I am honored to serve as the General Chair,” said David Kohler, President and CEO of Kohler Co. “There isn’t a more challenging and intimidating venue than Whistling Straits. My father, Herb Kohler, and designer, Pete Dye, created a masterpiece that will provide an incredible backdrop to the world’s premiere golf event. We are thrilled to serve as host site, and again share with the world the remarkable passion for golf that exists, not only in Wisconsin, but throughout the United States.”
Supporting David Kohler will be several thousand volunteers and a team of seasoned professionals. Michael Belot, General Manager of Hospitality Development, Clubs and Golf Majors, will serve as Vice Chair of the 2020 Ryder Cup, as he did for the 2015 PGA Championship. During previous employment with the PGA of America, Belot was Director of the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club in Chicago, Illinois. The top leadership team will also include Jim Richerson, General Manager and Group Director of Kohler Golf, past member of the PGA of America Board of Directors, who was recently named Wisconsin PGA Professional of the Year.
The Straits Course of Whistling Straits, which opened in 1998, features two miles of uninterrupted shoreline on Lake Michigan, a windswept terrain with more than 1,100 bunkers and sheep that roam at will. This dramatic setting is a masterpiece that can be played by amateurs from the forward tees, but will present a stiff challenge for the world’s finest professionals from the Championship tees.

About the Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup, among the last great professional sporting events where winning, and not prize money, is its own reward, spans 40 competitions over 88 years. The competition was born in 1927, when enterprising English seed merchant Samuel Ryder commissioned the casting of a gold chalice that bears his name. The U.S. Team defeated Great Britain, 9 1/2 to 2 1/2, in the inaugural matches in Worcester, Massachusetts.
