New York, NY (PRWEB) February 21, 2014 -- Located in the heart of Manhattan’s cultural district on West 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, the Quin, New York City’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel, is also a landmark destination for art – immersing guests in a stimulating culture-rich environment, with a mix of fine art, film, musical performances and other thought-provoking genres.

An innovative platform, Quin Arts honors the building’s artistic heritage and enriches the hotel’s creative programming by connecting guests with New York City’s thriving culture.

An innovative platform, Quin Arts honors the building’s artistic heritage and enriches the hotel’s creative programming by connecting guests with New York City’s thriving culture. Curated by DK Johnston of The Arts Fund, Quin Arts offers an ongoing series of culturally significant events, exhibitions, salons, lectures, film premieres, book debuts, musical performances and artist receptions. This multi-media initiative extends to a substantial permanent collection, along with an artist-in-residence program; grand displays on the lobby’s 15-foot abstract video art wall, which are specifically created for the hotel; and intimate salons with participating artists.

Inspired by world-class neighbors, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art, and the renowned artists who once resided where the Quin now stands, Quin Arts is deeply rooted in the city’s artistic tradition. Today, Quin Arts engages international artists who embody the energy and diversity of New York City. This progressive program is an impressive expression of the hotel’s commitment to its guests and a direct reflection of its service culture. The work is unique, intuitive, personal and profound.

“This city is privileged to be influenced by every corner of the world; and we’ve seen that travelers come here with a desire to be immersed in the truly global culture that’s particular to New York,” said Quin General Manager Holly Breuche. “We consider ourselves to be the quintessential New York hotel because we embrace this cosmopolitan spirit in all our services. Art allows us to seamlessly and creatively provide that immersive experience to our guests.”

Quin Arts curator DK Johnston echoed similar sentiments.

“Hospitality, like any art, is indeed about immersive experiences and interactive relationships,” Johnston said. “When I stand in the presence of a great painting, photograph or performance, the artist communicates something about the shared human experience; and as I continue to curate Quin Arts, I’m moved by emerging and established artists who impart such accessibility to their audiences. Images are intrinsic to travel, to memories…and a piece can stay with someone from the minute they log onto the website until long after they’ve checked out. The works, the artists, the city, the Quin and its guests are inextricably linked.”

Elements of the Quin Arts program include:

Artist-In-Residence Program
In honor of the legacy paved by former resident artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Marc Chagall, the Quin has instituted the artist-in-residence program by designating several guestrooms in which artists can live, work and create. During their stay, participating artists create works of art inspired by New York City, the Quin and its urbane essence. Each artist will contribute works and mementos from their residency to the Quin’s permanent collection. These pieces will likely include film notes, music lyrics, poetry, sketches and maquettes. Popular street artist Nick Walker launched the artist-in-residence initiative, using intricate handmade stencils and spray paint to create experimental, abstract pieces. Walker, the inaugural artist of this pilot program, has created 15 original works to be installed in the hotel.

Fine Art Collection/In-Room Art
The Quin currently houses 18 original pieces by artists from around the world. Prominently positioned on the landing of each floor, the collection includes works by Blek le Rat, the Paris-based “godfather of street art;” YZ; Eric Zener; Wulf Von Treu, “the German Basquiat;” and renowned Irish painter Patrick Graham. The collection includes both permanent artwork commissioned by the Quin and those generously loaned by Quin Arts curator DK Johnston. This collection now includes Nick Walker’s newest pieces and will continue to grow with original works commissioned through the Quin Arts’ artist-in-residence program.

Artist Salons
In conjunction with the Quin’s first artist salon at the end of the month, Magnum Photos will install a lobby-level exhibit of photographs by Burt Glinn, Erich Hartmann, Dennis Stock and Elliott Erwitt alongside their new digital installation on the video art wall in the lobby. Throughout the year, the Quin will host a series of artist salons in the Hotel’s Triplex Penthouse and Drawing Room in which art enthusiasts in New York and guests from around the world will have the unique opportunity to engage with the artists whose works are featured in the hotel. These intimate meet-and-greets and talk-back sessions will provide inspired content and stimulating debate. The salon series is also an interactive platform for leading minds in the fields of art, politics, philosophy, entertainment, finance, technology and sports, and may also include foreign consulate-hosted receptions and indie-film premieres

Abstract Electronic Canvas
One of Quin Arts’ most dramatic features is the 15-foot video art wall in the lobby of this Central Park Hotel. As an extension of an artist’s exhibit or residency, the video art wall challenges the Quin’s participating artists to create a new presentation of their original work in a dynamic format on a grand scale. These installations will feature photography, short-limited motion video images and fine art representations crafted specifically for the Quin. Having transformed his signature wet collodion processed prints into a fluid digital display, filmmaker Robert Christian Malmberg was the first to have his works appear on the art wall. An upcoming photo exhibition by the internationally renowned photographic cooperative Magnum Photos will officially inaugurate the digital video art wall gallery. Artist salons are designed to accompany these installations to further engage guests and patrons with featured artists.

The Quin
The Quin - A Central Park Hotel, is New York City’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel and is located on the corner of 57th Street and 6th Avenue. At the intersection of art, music, and fashion, its privileged Midtown location provides effortless access to Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Museum of Modern Art, and Fifth Avenue couture. The Quin melds modern opulence with its rich artistic heritage in each of its 208 thoughtfully appointed guest rooms including 28 suites. Guests relish in urbane and intelligent services, from the Attaché, who curate a guest’s New York experience, to distinguished amenities like an Executive Boardroom for 10, state-of-the-art Technogym fitness center, Apple equipped drawing room, Dux® beds by Duxiana®, Fresh® Spa Products, and a 2-story, 130-seat artisanal American seafood grill, The Wayfarer, showcasing a menu of fresh regional seafood.

Quin Arts is an interactive arts program that celebrates the property’s rich artistic heritage and produces exciting new platforms for contemporary artists. Renowned architecture and interior design firm, Perkins Eastman, has transposed a contemporary masterpiece on the classical foundation that was once home to cultural icons like pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski and artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Resonating with refined repose, the Quin is the Quintessential Central Park Hotel.
