The Ranch At Dove Tree Opens 5K “Run For Recovery” Registration
LUBBOCK, Texas (PRWEB) March 17, 2015 -- Registration has opened for the second annual community 5K “Run For Recovery”, sponsored by The Ranch at Dove Tree in Lubbock, Texas. The event will be held Saturday, April 25, at Mackenzie Park to show support for the area recovery community. All supporters who want to help but do not want to run or walk are welcome to volunteer in other capacities, including set-up, registration, water stations and logistics. With nearly 250 acres, Mackenzie Park is the largest recreation area in Lubbock. The run will take participants around the park’s golf course and beautifully landscaped trails. Additional information about registration materials are available online. The health and wellness team at The Ranch at Dove Tree sponsors the annual community run as a way to provide education about recovery and to acknowledge and encourage the recovery community.
“We are firm believers in encouraging practices that continue to restore the physical, emotional and mental well being of our clients,” said Kitty S. Harris, Ph.D., Executive Director of The Ranch at Dove Tree. “We also want our clients to return to their lives as people who value giving back to the community. Active service is an important part of recovery, and involvement with others is a large part of relapse prevention. We know that as our clients progress from initial detox through the phases of recovery they can enhance their self-esteem and general well-being by participating in social and physical events. That’s why the Run for Recovery is so important.”
The Ranch at Dove Tree, which collaborates with Texas Tech University’s Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery, specializes in collegiate-focused addiction treatment. Its services specifically help young adults ages 18 to 25, taking their developmental needs into consideration. Texas Tech professionals collaborate with The Ranch at Dove Tree in providing a recovery curriculum using psycho-educational groups created specifically for the collegiate population and their families. The program also includes recommendations for aftercare intended to apply the tools and life skills from recovery as young clients learn to create their adult identities. Community relationships are an important step in that direction.
“In our collegiate program, we emphasize the fact that long-term recovery depends on several factors, including basic wellness practices,” Harris said. “With an event like the 5K Run for Recovery, our young people learn about creating values and setting goals. As an adjunct to our academic/vocational program and therapeutic work on relationships, our health and wellness segment increases clients establish awareness of their roles in the community.”
