LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) February 15, 2018 -- The Reeves Law Group, a nationally-recognized Personal Injury law firm in California, has selected third-year Harvard Law School student Jennifer Barrow as the recipient of its 2017 Future Lawyer Scholarship. Barrow will receive $3,000 to use for tuition and education-related expenses.
Jennifer's application eclipsed fierce competition that included dozens of law students nationwide in various stages of their educational journeys. As part of the process, applicants were to provide an essay and supporting documentation that demonstrated their desire to use the legal system in addressing problems and making societal improvements.
Barrow's application detailed her experiences as a volunteer for at-risk women, children, and the elderly as well as her tireless work providing intelligence to degrade and eliminate insurgents in the Middle East. While deployed in Iraq, Barrow provided information that led to the capture of an arms dealer responsible for the RKG-3 grenade that seriously wounded a fellow soldier. She has expressed a desire to continue supporting her comrades by making veterans assistance a centerpiece of her legal career.
"I receive my health care through the VA, and I have personally been through the process of applying for disability through the VA," said Jennifer. "I know first-hand of the challenges involved, and so I believe I could be of great service to veterans who are in need of their benefits. The welfare of soldiers and veterans is a concern of mine, and my law degree will go to this service."
"Selecting Jennifer as our 2017 scholarship winner was not a difficult decision. She not only possesses a burning passion for improving the lives of others and a bright legal mind, but she is also a bona fide war hero," said firm founder Robert Reeves. "We're eager to see what this young woman will accomplish moving forward because there already is so much she has accomplished in such a short period."
Besides her experience as an Intelligence Officer, Jennifer has a passion for volunteering for many causes close to her heart, and she has received awards and recognition for those efforts.
Jennifer has logged 595 pro bono hours, some of which were spent assisting veterans with estate plans, drafting and revising legal documents, and representing them in benefits appeals. Her non-legal volunteer work revolves around feeding the homeless through Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity homeless shelters.
Before graduating from West Point, she received a Big Sister of the Year award for her work in the school's annual Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. While stationed in Arizona, her more than 100 hours of volunteer work over a four-month period earned her the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
