The Role Of The Controller Is Becoming More Strategic
(PRWEB) September 29, 2016 -- The Controller’s fundamental purpose is to provide the CFO with producing timely and accurate financial statements from which the CFO can develop a financial plan for the company. The Controller looks back at the company’s past financial situation, so the CFO can plan for its future.
However, their role is changing. As the CFO’s responsibilities have increased over the past decade, essentially becoming a partner to the CEO, so too has those of the controller. In a recent IMA survey, 30% of the controllers said that they were now taking on responsibilities that were traditionally carried out by the CFO, while almost 80% of Controllers are seeing increased demand for them to apply strategic, forward-thinking skills.
This November 30 and December 1 at the Colonnade Hotel in Boston, the Controller Summit will see a number of industry leading controllers and finance leaders take the stage to present on all the issues confronting controllers in their role, leading discussion around how to navigate the shifting tectonic plates of the finance function.
Among the speakers will be Jim Waddell, Corporate Controller at Bose Corporation. He will outline the key elements of partnering with your CFO, emphasizing the importance of communication planning and describing how best to achieve it, as well as providing continuous improvement feedback.
Also speaking at the event will be Joanne Stratton, Director of Operations Finance at Ocean Spray, Hannah David, Senior Consulting Project Manager at Staples, Amadou Sy, Financial Controller at Danone, and a host of others.
Amadou Sy will look specifically the differences between the traditional annual budget and forecast versus the trendy Rolling forecast, listing the pros and cons of the methodologies and argue that the Manichean tendency to rule the traditional budgeting process as totally irrelevant. He will also explain how to avoid traps in implementing rolling forecast using real life examples and testimonies of people that undertook such changes in their companies.
Maisy Hockey, curator of the event, said: “The Controller Summit has taken place in Boston for a number of years now, and I believe this to be one of the best line-ups we have had. All passes will also allow you to obtain 14.5 CPE Credits over the 2 day summit, and there will be a number of networking opportunities during which the more than 100 delegates can discuss the topics covered in further detail."
