San Francisco, California (PRWEB) February 10, 2014 -- On December 24, 2013, the San Francisco employment lawyers at Blumenthal Nordrehaug & Bhowmik filed a class action lawsuit against Redfin Corporation, alleging that the online real estate brokerage company illegally classified their employees working as Field Agent as independent contractors in order to avoid paying Redfin´s share of payroll taxes, overtime wages, and other business related expenses. Cruz, et al. v. Redfin Corporation is currently pending in the Alameda County Superior Court Case No. RG13707955.
According to the class action complaint Redfin hires workers to aid the company in providing real estate brokerage services, but has allegedly devised an unlawful scheme of classifying these workers employed as Field Agents as independent contractors in order to avoid paying for regular and overtime hours worked. Specifically, the lawsuit claims that the Field Agents were paid only a flat piece rate for particular jobs completed for Redfin and these Field Agents were allegedly not paid for all hours worked, including overtime hours worked. The lawsuit asks for an unspecified amount of damages and also seeks to recover wages on behalf of all the Field Agents working for Redfin in California.
