The Trade Commission of Spain Concludes 22nd Annual Spain's Great Match Events
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 07, 2015 -- Wines from Spain, a division of the Trade Commission of Spain in New York, recently concluded its Spain’s Great Match events in New York City and Houston. Spain’s Great Match New York celebrated its 22nd annual event in New York City on October 7 at the Frank Gehry-designed IAC HQ Building, while Spain’s Great Match Houston debuted in Texas on November 10 at the renowned event space, Silver Street Studios. Throughout both events, guests had the opportunity to sample hundreds of wines from countless renowned Spanish regions, taste foods from New York and Houston’s top Spain-inspired restaurants, attend tutored regional seminars, and celebrate the debut of Karen MacNeil’s second edition of The Wine Bible. Next year’s events will take place in New York City on October 5, and in San Francisco in early November.
“We were thrilled with the outcome of this year’s Spain’s Great Match events and are sure that all of our guests had a wonderful experience sampling Spain’s wine, food and culture,” said Genaro González Palacios, Senior Trade Commissioner of Spain. “We look forward to the next Spain’s Great Match New York on October 5, 2016, and to re-introducing the event in San Francisco."
In the afternoon, select members of the wine trade and press were invited to participate in several unique seminars on Spain’s most exciting regions and wines, as well as a walk-around tasting. Seminars in New York included tutored regional seminars on Jerez, Bobal (Utiel-Requena) and Bierzo, led by wine experts such as Karen MacNeil, Marnie Old and Steve Olson. Karen MacNeil also moderated a panel discussion called “My Spain,” during which Michael Schachner of Wine Enthusiast, Geoffrey Brooke of Gary’s Wine and Marketplace, and Ashley Santoro of The Standard and Narcissa shared the Spanish wines that “changed their worlds.”
Karen MacNeil’s “My Spain” seminar was repeated in Houston with panelists David Keck of The Camerata at Paulie’s Wine Bar, and Mark Rashap of The Society of Wine Educators. A Cava seminar was also offered to select press and sponsored guests during the evening event.
The evening portions of the events featured a walk-around tasting, as well as tapas from each city’s top Spain-inspired restaurants. In New York, 10 restaurants including Casa Mono, Boqueria, Soccarat and Barcelona served unique Spanish dishes, while in Houston, 4 restaurants – Costa Brava, El Mesón, Peska and Rioja Restaurant – provided guests with samplings of their top tapas dishes.
During both the afternoon and evening portions of each event, Karen MacNeil celebrated the debut of the second edition of her Wine Bible by hosting several seminars, signing and selling books, and providing complimentary electronic copies of the “My Spain” chapter of the book.
