The Trustees of Reservations Hosts 40th Annual Gardeners’ Gathering in Boston this Saturday, 3/21
Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 20, 2015 -- WHAT: Annual Gardeners’ Gathering, celebrating a 40-year milestone this year, is an annual forum for gardeners to shrug off the winter chill and celebrate urban gardening in Boston. Free and open to all, the Gathering offers a day full of workshops given by local experts, creative activities for kids, and exhibitions by garden-related businesses and non-profits. It is also a great opportunity to network with other gardening enthusiasts and to celebrate outstanding community gardens, old and new, with the Community Garden Awards presented by Mayor Martin J. Walsh.
WHO: Presented by The Trustees of Reservations and the former Boston Natural Areas Network (now a part of The Trustees’ Boston Region). The Gardeners Gathering will also feature the popular Annual Community Garden Awards presentations. With the help of Mayor Walsh, individuals, garden groups, and nonprofit organizations will be honored with the “Hall of Fame,” “Rookie Gardener of the Year,” and “Most Valuable Gardener” awards.

WHY: As the city’s largest educational forum for urban gardeners, the Gardeners’ Gathering is an opportunity for all levels of gardeners and garden enthusiasts to share ideas and tips, network, and learn. The Gardener’s Gathering brings together over 400 gardeners to kick off Boston’s gardening season. More than two dozen skill-building workshops for both vegetable and ornamental gardeners will be offered with an emphasis on healthy practices for urban gardens. Topics range from seed starting, composting, urban beekeeping, learning how to prepare garden-grown delights, and youth and community organizing, to keeping backyard hens, making herbal medicine, and growing edible mushrooms. Attendees will also be able to experience multiple exhibitors’ work from Boston-area agriculture, gardening, and environmental organizations from around the region.
