The United Nations Foundation and Young Professionals in Foreign Policy Forge New Partnership
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- Both the UN Foundation and YPFP hope to foster the next generation of foreign policy leaders by providing young professionals with the knowledge, skills, exposure, and relationships to tackle critical global challenges in their careers. Young people have a growing role shaping the global agenda and new generations of these leaders are positioning to become a major force in global affairs and development.
“More and more, young people play a vital and influential role shaping the global agenda," said Kathy Calvin, President and CEO of the United Nations Foundation. "By forging this partnership with the Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, we hope to learn from and help inspire young people to make positive change throughout the world.” The United Nations Foundation launched the Foundation’s Youth Task Force this past year to identify more ways for youth to engage in global affairs and with the United Nations.
“YPFP and UNF recognize that engaging, activating, and training Millennials to become the leaders tomorrow's world needs is essential. This partnership reflects a commitment from both organizations to lead the way in fostering future global leaders," said YPFP President Gary Barnabo.
Bringing together the UN Foundation’s expertise on policy, advocacy and global movement building with YPFP’s network of globally-minded young professionals, the partnership hopes to strengthen the role of youth in global affairs and development.
Notably, the two organizations will work together to scale up YPFP’s Leadership Incubator Modules, a program designed to deliver tangible knowledge and skills to future leaders. This will be accomplished through modules co-created by the UN Foundation and YPFP on issues that may include energy and climate, gender, global health, technology and innovation, and advocacy campaigns.
These curricular modules will incorporate a mix of seminars, workshops, group work, self-study, applied learning, simulations, and a capstone. By instilling critical skills and thematic expertise in the selected young professionals, these modules will curate an informed, connected group of leaders who are prepared to make a meaningful impact in the international arena.
