The Village at Orchard Ridge Partners with Winchester Chapter of The American Guild of Organists for Music Concert Series
Winchester, VA (PRWEB) June 08, 2016 -- The Village at Orchard Ridge—A National Lutheran Community (TVOR) in Winchester, Va., will host a series of organ recitals to be presented by members and friends of the Winchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists on the new Létourneau Opus 130 pipe organ in the Chapel at The Village at Orchard Ridge. The concerts will take place on the second Monday of each month (June-December) at 7.pm. and the programs are free and open to the public.
A Festive Sampler is the first of the series, presented on June 13 at 7 p.m. The program will be performed by Lee Jeong Hee and Steven Cooksey. The music will range from compositions based upon simple hymn tune melodies, such as "Amazing Grace" to the complex rhythms, textures, and harmonies of a modern piece "Sonntagsmusik" by the contemporary Czech composer, Petr Eben. There will be a sampling of organ music from the pen of perhaps the greatest composer to write for the instrument, Johann Sebastian Bach. A chorale prelude, a movement of trio sonata, and the monumental, so called "Wedge" fugue, by the Leipzig master will be heard.

The Opus 130 was designed and built by the Létourneau Organ Company of Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec Canada. It features 16 carefully chosen stops, 19 ranks and 1,063 pipes that range in length from just over 10 feet to the size of a pencil. The organ's painted casework was made from solid maple with walnut accents and was specifically designed to fit seamlessly into the Chapel at The Village at Orchard Ridge. The console features two manuals (or keyboards) with bone and ebony overlays and a 32-note pedalboard. The console also features a number of thumb and toe pistons which allows the organist to bring on prepared combinations of stops at will.

The Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester, Va., is a new continuing care retirement community (CCRC) on 132-acres in the Shenandoah Valley.
