The Village Foundation and Rolling Green Village to Host Lt. Governor Henry McMaster on April 9
Greenville, South Carolina (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- WHAT: Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster, who oversees the South Carolina Office on Aging, will visit Rolling Green Village, Greenville’s first continuing care retirement community, on April 9.
WHY: South Carolina is not yet equipped to meet the long-term health care needs of its senior population, which is projected to double by 2030 according to a Census Bureau projection. The Lt. Governor and members of the Rolling Green Village Foundation will talk about ways to address South Carolina’s growing need for senior services. The growing need is further demonstrated by:
• South Carolina’s senior population is growing at one of the fastest rates in the country, yet at this time, the state does not have the ability to double services for the senior population according to Tony Kester, former director at the SC Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging.
• Seniors use up to five times more health care services than people under 65 years of age, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research.
• Key findings from the United Van Lines’ 38th Annual National Movers Study, which tracks customers’ migration patterns state-to-state during the course of the past year, found that South Carolina is No. 2 as the top moving destination of 2014, with 61% of moves to the state being inbound. The study found that the current migration patterns reflect longer-term trends of movement to the western and southern states, like South Carolina, especially those where housing costs are relatively lower and climates are more temperate, among other factors.
