New York, NY (PRWEB) January 22, 2014 -- Top YouTube sports content creators Brodie Smith and Shot Science Basketball have signed up as original channel partners with The Whistle Network, which launched on January 1st this year with over two million initial subscribers and expects to break three million subscribers this week.
“Millions of young athletes have watched Brodie and Shot Science to be entertained and learn more about the sports they love. They have an incredible fan base across many platforms because they’re both inspiring talent and fantastic people. We are thrilled to partner with them as they both bring deep knowledge about how to be a successful independent sports creator to our growing creator base. We are looking forward to helping them expand their audience and develop new, amazing sports content across multiple platforms,” said The Whistle’s Head of Content Partnerships, Julie Kikla.
Brodie Smith is a professional ultimate frisbee player and three-time national champion who has played and taught the sport in ten countries. Like fellow Whistle Network channel partners DudePerfect, Smith is an expert at making seemingly impossible trick shots like hitting a moving speed boat hundreds of feet away. His instructional videos have earned several million more views, helping to bring awareness and grow fans in the sport of ultimate frisbee.
“The Whistle Network is growing quickly and has a fantastic team to support my future content plans. But even more important to me is their passionate focus on building a community about what’s awesome about sports and driving sports content to capture and celebrate moments when people are at their best,” Smith said.
Shot Science Basketball is a family trio of lifelong basketball players and coaches made up of brothers Casey and Chase Curtiss and their father Tom. They were winners of the YouTube “NextUp” award, which recognized channels with high growth potential and have since exploded with over 100K subscribers and 14 million total views. Their unique approach to instructional content stresses fundamentals and includes footage from a high-speed camera analyzing shooting in super slow motion, sport-specific training in key areas such as improving your vertical leap and shooting a floater, and personal advice from pro basketball coaches and players on such topics as making the team and being a point guard.
“We are looking forward to bringing our expertise to The Whistle’s millions of subscribers and expanding the reach of our content with them from exclusively YouTube to include multiple platforms. Between their pro league partners and a growing roster of content creators, The Whistle has built a great team of which we’re proud to be a part, and we can’t wait to help grow the community,” Casey Curtiss said.
The Whistle Network (TWN) is the YouTube-focused platform of the sports media company The Whistle, whose ten professional league content and equity partners include Major League Baseball Advance Media, PGA Tour, NASCAR, Major League Lacrosse, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, U.S. Soccer, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Alli Sports.
TWN’s leadership includes Kikla, who worked with pro teams and leagues as well as sports content creators and led education initiatives for YouTube’s Global Sports Team such as the sports playbook on how to be successful on the YouTube platform. The Whistle’s Dev Sethi, Head of Partner Operations, was a Senior Strategist of the YouTube Online Acquisitions team and helped set up YouTube’s initial NHL franchise engagement and also spearheaded the creation of the YouTube Partner Program’s first video education series.
The launch this month of the YouTube channel with millions of subscribers continues The Whistle's ongoing multi-platform roll-out to meet the new generation of sports fans on every platform where they spend their time, including mobile/web app releases, an expanded social media presence, a Microsoft XBox Live video channel and application currently in development and an expanded presence on additional digital platforms.
