The World's Best BBQ Ribs… are from Canada?!
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) November 28, 2014 -- At the 2014 World Food Championships in Las Vegas, NV, this month, where nearly 400 competitive cooks vied for the title of best cook in the world, one Canadian team stood out. House of Q, a Vancouver- based competition BBQ team and manufacturer of BBQ rubs and sauces, took home top prize in the rib category.
“Winning the award is huge recognition for Canadian cooks competing in a traditional American stronghold, slow-smoke BBQ,” says BBQ Brian Misko, head pitmaster of House of Q. “When House of Q won best ribs, I yelled, screamed, jumped for joy, and celebrated just like we won the Stanley Cup!”
The qualifying round of the competition has BBQ teams cook three slow-smoked meats: brisket, pork and ribs. BBQ Brian led the team to 10th place in brisket and first place for ribs, using House of Q sauces and rubs in all his recipes, which are available across Canada at nearly 300 grocers and fine foods stores.
For the top ten cook, BBQ Brian used two recipes from his debut cookbook, Grilling with House of Q, due on store shelves across North America in Spring 2015. The mandatory use of salmon allowed him to feature his recipe for Maple Chipotle Glazed Salmon, paired with his Herb Crusted Flank Steak. The dish garnered enough points to enable House of Q to finish the competition in 7th place overall.
House of Q is the first Canadian team to make the top ten at the World Food Championships and the first Canadian team to win a qualifying meat category. The award is a career high for BBQ Brian and the House of Q team.
The "Grilling with House of Q" cookbook celebrates BBQ Brian’s ten years of competitive cooking and inspirational recipes for cooks to master in their own backyards. His story begins ten years ago with a simple visit to a BBQ contest that has culminated in taking home prestigious international awards.
