The YMCA and Carowinds Team Up to Reinforce the Importance of Learning to Swim and Reward Kids for Practicing Water Safety
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) September 27, 2013 -- Carowinds has partnered with the University City branch of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte to provide free swim lessons to a select group of children. During Carowinds’ off season, the kids will be learning how to swim and if they accomplish their water safety goals, they will be part of the first group of riders on the all new Dorsal Fin Drop and Surfer’s Swell slides, opening in May 2014.
While Carowinds adds over 600 feet of sliding surface to the 20 acre Boomerang Bay water park, the 15 children chosen to take part in swim lessons will be learning the lifelong skill of swimming. Swimming classes will begin in the Fall of 2013, and continue through the Spring of 2014.
“At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for every child and teen,” said University City YMCA Aquatics Director Ame Guy. “We are grateful to our friends at Carowinds for allowing the Y to celebrate the addition of these new slides in a way that highlights the joy of swimming and water safety for kids and families.”
“Not only will we be bringing amazing new attractions to Boomerang Bay” said Julie Whitted Carowinds Public Relations manager “We’re excited to give this special group of kids the reward of a lifetime for learning water safety,” adding that Carowinds would stay in touch with the kids and their families throughout the off season and mark their progress via social media via the hashtag #caroswimteam. Slide construction will also be shared on Carowinds social media http://www.facebook.com/carowindspark and on Twitter @carowindspark.
Carowinds is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Carowinds, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, three water parks, one indoor water park, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in California under a management contract.
