TheraMind Introduces Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Santa Barbara, CA. Vernon Hills, IL. (PRWEB) October 04, 2016 -- TheraMind Services, Inc., a leading national provider of outpatient neurological and psychological treatment services, is pleased to announce that it now offers mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) to patients at the TheraMind Centers located in Santa Barbara, California, Vernon Hills, Illinois and Ft. Lauderdale and Vero Beach, Florida. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves raising body oxygen levels by placing the patient in a pressurized chamber with a concentrated oxygen supply. That pressure causes the oxygen gas (O2) to dissolve into the blood plasma thereby increasing the O2 levels in virtually all body fluids (e.g. plasma, cerebral spinal fluid, lymphatic).
Hyperbaric therapy was first used to treat health problems in England as early as 1662! The health benefits of HBOT have been recognized and actively studied in the U.S. since 1928 when Harvard Medical School had an HBOT chamber built for research. Today HBOT and mild HBOT (the difference being the amount of pressure used in the respective chambers) are routinely used in hospitals, private wound centers, private hyperbaric centers and mild hyperbaric centers. Use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT at pressures above mHBOT levels) has been cleared by the FDA for treatment of 15 different conditions including thermal burns, wound care and carbon dioxide poisoning, among others. mHBOT has been FDA cleared only for AMS (altitude sickness) but, like its higher pressure “cousin”, HBOT, its benefits and consequent applications flow from the general physiological benefits applicable to hyperbaric therapy generally: reduction of inflammation; reduction of pain; regeneration of tissue and tissue function; improved energy levels; and, enhancement of the immune system.
At the TheraMind Centers providing mHBOT identified above, the hyperbaric therapy is provided either separately or, if so specified in the unique protocol developed for a specific patient by the Center’s physicians, in combination with other therapies such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). mHBOT has been reported in medical literature to have a beneficial effect on many common neurological conditions including childhood autism spectrum disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, migraine and sports injuries, among others.
