It all begins on the May long weekend with headliner JRDN. Winner of the 2014 Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, JRDN hit the mainstream with “You Can Have it All” , number 5 on the Much Music countdown, and followed it with “Like Magic”, a certified gold hit also off the IAM JRDN release.
June welcomes the return of one of the region’s most popular events, the Salsa at Blue Festival, June 20-22. Among this year’s performers is Juno Award nominee and Canadian Guitarist of the Year Johannes Linstead. With four top-ten Billboard charting albums, Johannes is one of the best-selling international guitarists in the instrumental and World Music genres.
As mentioned, July 1 sees international classic rock superstars Myles Goodwyn and April Wine take over the main stage with their big bag of crowd-pleasers including “Roller”, “Sign of the Gypsy Queen” and the timeless “Oowatanite.” The music rolls on with the second annual Jazz on the Mountain festival July 4-6. Featured on the bill are multi Juno Award-winner and Grammy nominee Gino Vannelli, best known for such mega-selling hits as “Black Cars” and “Wild Horses”, Motown legends The Commodores choosing hits from their catalogue of over 50 albums, and Grammy award-winning R&B sensations The Yellowjackets. And then The King takes over.
The 20th Annual Collingwood Elvis Festival brings hundreds of Elvis tribute artists from across the globe to entertain and compete for the title and entry to the Memphis festival. This year Priscilla Presley will be on hand to host this event that brings thousands of visitors from right across the continent. August is highlighted by an evening with one of Canada’s best-known singer/songwriters and international folk-rock superstar, Bruce Cockburn. From “Lovers in a Dangerous Time” and “I Wonder Where the Lions Are” to “If I Had a Rocket Launcher” and “If a Tree Falls”, he always has a story to tell and a unique way to tell it.
