Think Through Math Selected by the Texas Education Agency as Exclusive On-Line Math Provider for Fourth and Fifth Consecutive Years and Expands Coverage to Algebra
Pittsburgh, Penn. (PRWEB) March 24, 2016 -- Think Through Learning, creators of Think Through Math (TTM), the award-winning web-based instruction system for grades 3 and above, announced that it has been chosen for the fourth and fifth consecutive years as the online math provider for the Texas SUCCESS program. Selected in December 2015, after a rigorous and competitive procurement process by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Think Through Math is available to students in third grade through algebra in all Texas public schools and open-enrollment charter schools through August 31st of 2017.
A web-based learning system, Think Through Math combines rigorous adaptive instruction on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning standards, a powerful motivation system, and instant access to live state-certified US math teachers who tutor struggling students online in real-time just at the point when they need help.
“We are thrilled to be able to support Texas math teachers for the fourth and fifth years in a row,” said Kevin McAliley, CEO of Think Through Learning, “While the math performance in almost every other state declined in 2015, scores were up in Texas due to the resourcefulness of the state’s dedicated math teachers. Being selected as the sole math provider is validation by teachers across the state as to the contribution TTM has made to their students’ math proficiency. We are also honored that the TEA asked us to support their algebra students as well. We at TTM remain steadfast in our mission to make Think Through Math an even better resource for Texas in the coming school years.”
“Over the past several years, the strong partnership between the Texas Education Agency and Think Through Math has ensured that millions of students could develop the conceptual math skills required for success on the STAAR assessment and for a smooth transition to either college or a career,” commented Louis Piconi, EVP and co-founder of Think Through Math, “We are excited to be selected for the fourth and fifth consecutive years as the state’s supplemental math curriculum and look forward to building upon the outstanding success we’ve had with the program to date.”
Since its introduction in 2012, TTM has helped millions of Texas students improve their math skills and has seen consistent growth in usage that includes:
• More than 1,000 Texas school districts and 5,700 schools
• More than 1.6 million Texas students enrolled annually
• Nearly 290 million math problems and more than 10 million total lessons completed
• 36% of the work on TTM taking place in the evenings or on weekends, reflecting students’ genuine enjoyment of the program
• Think Through Math being actively used in 89% of Texas Public Schools
A comprehensive, independent study of Think Through Math released in January of 2015 found that using TTM significantly improved student performance on the Texas STAAR assessment. Conducted by Gibson Consulting Group, and funded by the TEA as part of the state’s Students Using Curriculum to Ensure Sustained Success (SUCCESS) program, the study found that students using TTM had more positive gains in their STAAR scores than non-TTM users, at statistically significant levels.
Most notably, the study showed that “students in Grades 3-8 who attempted 20 or more lessons had statistically significant higher STAAR-Mathematics scores than non-users. On average, TTM users realized an average improvement of nearly 17 percentage points, with some grade’s improvement as high as 26 percentage points. TTM users who attempted 20 or more lessons achieved an average 90% pass rate on the STAAR exam versus only a 74% pass rate for non-TTM users.
With nearly three million students in more than 180,000 classrooms across the country, TTM is the fastest growing supplemental math program in the U.S. With customized versions for each state’s learning standards, Think Through Math’s lessons include a wide variety of interactive item types, ensuring students are well-prepared for the more sophisticated question types being used on state-level assessments. TTM’s unique intrinsic and extrinsic motivational features increase engagement and build self-esteem so students increase their time on task. Think Through Math has received numerous awards since its introduction and is expanding rapidly across the US.
