The Galapagos is known as the modern-day Eden, with an unequaled abundance of rare and spectacular wildlife living in one of the world’s most protected national parks. However, most tourists forget to take this amazing opportunity to also interact with those who call the islands home. Most people know about the Incas and Machu Picchu, yet there are pre-Incan civilizations largely unheard of outside Peru. This tour takes guests to the lesser-traveled northern region of the country to explore what remains of several ancient cultures and the mysteries these societies left behind. Tour the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna archaeological complex and museum, boasting exquisitely decorated temples that truly represent the Moche culture. Travel to the ruins of Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the world, then visit El Brujo, one of the most important archaeological sites on the north coast and the ceremonial center for 10 cultures. Visit the Valley of the Pyramids of Tucume, the last capital of the Sican and Chimu kingdoms. Tour Wari ruins and temples around Ayacucho then spend the last day at Vilcashuaman, once an Inca administrative center.
