This Mother’s Day Weekend: Think Outside the Brunch

Presented by public gardens nationwide in collaboration with the American Public Gardens Association (APGA), this annual day of awareness invites communities to explore the diverse beauty of their local green spaces and to take advantage of public garden promotions, entertainment and discounts, all while drawing attention to the beauty and preservation that gardens provide.
North American botanic gardens, arboreta, museums, zoos and entertainment gardens will recognize 2015 National Public Gardens Day with special events and activities for visitors of all ages. Many of the planned activities will continue throughout Mother’s Day weekend, offering the public time to enjoy the beauty and excitement of member gardens while learning about their commitment to education, research and environmental and community stewardship. National Public Gardens Day also serves as a great alternative for a date night or a family activity.
“For seven years, National Public Gardens Day has been kicking off Mother’s Day weekend and serving as the unofficial launch into Spring,” said Casey Sclar, Ph.D., Executive Director of the APGA. "Public gardens are indispensable assets to their communities and provide a point of common ground for all residents. Our gardens are not only places of enjoyment, but are also important educational, conservation, and cultural resources. With that in mind, instead of bringing flowers to mom, on Friday May 8th, bring mom to the flowers!”
National Public Gardens Day was created to drive local and national exposure to the importance of building vibrant, relevant gardens committed to community enrichment and environmental responsibility through community engagement, sustainable practices and conversation.
