ThompsonGas Named Official Propane Provider of National Mall
Hagerstown, MD (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- ThompsonGas, the 18th largest propane service provider in the U.S., has been selected as the first and only provider of propane for six alternative fueled lawn mowers for the National Mall and Memorial Parks (NAMA). Each new Exmark Lazer Z S-Series lawn mower, donated by the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), will be refilled using a propane cylinder exchange system from ThompsonGas.
The new lawn mowers are part of the National Park Service’s initiative to reduce dependence on foreign oil and conserve energy. The lawn mowers will comprise one-third of the Mall’s mower fleet and replace diesel-powered mowers. Switching to propane will reduce fuel spills, save NAMA money on fuel and maintenance costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the Mall by 50 percent per lawn mower. Carbon monoxide emissions are expected to drop by 80 percent.
Propane is the third most used auto fuel in the world. ThompsonGas President and Owner Randy Thompson says the company recognized the opportunity propane presents as a viable on and off-road vehicle fuel many years ago. The propane supplier currently offers engine fuel for fleet vehicles, police cruisers, forklifts, lawn equipment and other high-mileage, high-runtime vehicles and equipment.
