Three Animal Rescues Win Grants for Sponsored Adoption Fees in 1-800-PetMeds Cares™ DOGust Birthday Contest
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) August 16, 2016 -- 1-800-PetMeds®, America’s Largest Pet Pharmacy®, announces the winners of the 1-800-PetMeds Cares™ DOGust Birthday Contest. Twin Cities Pet Rescue in St. Paul, Minn.; Love-A-Bull, Inc. in Austin, Texas; and Cat Depot in Sarasota, Fla., will receive grants covering adoption fees for 18 pets overall, helping these pets find adoptive homes.
The contest was held from August 1-14, 2016, in celebration of the universal shelter dog birthday, DOGust. Along with the grants, 1-800-PetMeds Cares™ will also compose a video feature for each of the winning groups, highlighting one adoptable pet at each group.
The first-place winner, Twin Cities Pet Rescue, will receive a grant to sponsor the adoption fees of ten less-adoptable pets. One of these pets, Hans, is a puppy mill survivor who has been with the rescue for more than two years and has medical needs. The second-place winner, Love-A-Bull, Inc., will receive a grant to sponsor the adoption fees of five less-adoptable pets, including 7-year-old pit-bull mix Gidget. The third-place winner, Cat Depot, will receive a grant to sponsor the adoption fees of three less-adoptable pets, including long-time resident cat, Bernard. The overall estimated amount of the grants is $3,600.
The winners were asked to choose less-adoptable dogs and/or cats for sponsorship, as they benefit the most from having sponsored adoption fees. Less-adoptable pets include, but are not limited to, adults, seniors, special-needs animals, long-term residents and bully breeds.
The DOGust Birthday Contest was open to entries from registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit groups that adopt out dogs and/or cats in the U.S. from August 1 to 7, 2016. Voting commenced August 8, 2016, and closed August 14, 2016. The three winning animal rescue groups were selected based on the number of votes each received.
“Animal rescue groups work tirelessly to save pets and get them into homes, and we’re proud to further this goal with the DOGust Birthday Contest,” said Erin Gleeson, outreach specialist at 1-800-PetMeds®. “DOGust is a day to celebrate shelter pets. The best gift you can give a shelter pet is a forever, loving home, and we’re hoping the sponsored adoption fees and video features will help a few pets get just that.”
DOGust, also known as DOGust the 1st, is celebrated each year on Aug. 1. It was introduced by the North Shore Animal League America in 2008 to recognize and celebrate shelter pets everywhere.
The DOGust Birthday Contest was run through 1-800-PetMeds Cares™, a charitable offshoot of 1-800-PetMeds® which organizes product donations to animal shelters and rescues across the U.S. and runs several annual contests, including the Change a Pet’s Life Contest, to assist animal shelters and rescues.
