Three Cheers—and Emmys—for Choo Choo Bob!
St. Paul, Minnesota (PRWEB) October 09, 2013 -- Minnesota-produced children's program “The Choo Choo Bob Show,” which airs on channel 45 in the Twin Cities, recently accepted three awards at the Upper Midwest Emmys. The live-action show, which hearkens back to classic children’s shows like “The Muppet Show,” won for Best Children's Program (12 & Under), Program Writer (Non-News), and Lighting. It also received nods for Musical Composition/Arrangement, Program Editor (Non-News), and On-Camera Talent-Performer/Narrator.
The Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a membership organization dedicated to excellence in television, announced the winners at the Emmy Gala at the State Theater in downtown Minneapolis. The chapter serves the local television industries of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Minnesota.
“The Choo Choo Bob Show” beat out other regional children's programs like “Can-Do Girls” from KARE-TV, Minneapolis; “Draven's Wish,” from LaCrosse, Wisc.; and “TV9 Storm Team WX Academy” from Cedar Rapids, Ia. Paul Carlson, who writes for the show, was up against other writers from “Iowa Ingredient,” and the Vikings Entertainment Network. Mike Welckle, the Choo Choo Bob director of photography and lighting, celebrated a victory over the production team behind Minnesota Gophers Hockey.
“Now we can say ‘Emmy-winning’ as much as possible,” says Bob Medcraft, the Emmy-winning show's creator and producer. “The Emmy-winning cast and crew is the heart and soul of our Emmy-winning Choo Choo Bob show. Without those guys, we never could've won an Emmy.”
“This is our first year of eligibility for the Midwest Emmys, and these wins confirm we won't run out of steam any time soon,” adds Medcraft.
“The Choo Choo Bob Show,” aimed at ages three to seven, features Choo Choo Bob and his friends creatively exploring all things train-related. Full episodes, clips and original songs can be found on its YouTube channel. The cast visits real trains across the country, and renowned musical guests drop by to jam, including LA-based Ozomatli and indie rock singer/songwriter Haley Bonar.
