Three Teague Campbell Partners to Speak at NCASI 2014 Annual Conference
Raleigh, North Carolina (PRWEB) March 06, 2014 -- The North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers will hold their 14th Annual Conference March 26-28 at Wrightsville Beach and three Teague Campbell partners are scheduled to speak.
The theme of this year’s conference is “The Changing Face of Workers’ Compensation,” as NCASI seeks to educate its members on emerging developments in workers’ compensation in North Carolina. The association is made up of employers throughout North Carolina, along with claims professionals, rehabilitation professionals, third-party administrators, private investigators, and law firms.
Teague Campbell partner Edward Schenk III will speak on Thursday March 27th from 11:20 a.m. until 12:10 p.m. on Workers’ Compensation and Employment Law Issues. Mr. Schenk’s presentation will focus specifically on employer retaliation and claims under the North Carolina Retaliatory Employment Discrimination Act (REDA). These issues are important for employers, insurers and third-party administrators to be aware of, as communication between parties in workers’ compensation claims can often become a focus of potential retaliation claims against employers down the road. Mr. Schenk will hone in on good risk management practices, along with case management strategy, that can protect employers and their insurers.
On Friday March 28 from 10:30 a.m. until Noon Teague Campbell partner Bruce Hamilton will moderate a panel discussion on “Comp Claims Across State Lines from the Employers’ Perspective.” Mr. Hamilton serves on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers and is known nationally as an authority on workers’ compensation law. He served as a member of the legislative negotiations team for the 2011 Workers’ Compensation Reform Bill (House Bill 709) and the 2012 Amendments (House Bill 237), and brings a unique ‘insider’ perspective to the emerging developments in workers’ compensation law.
Teague Campbell partner Daniel Hayes, a member of the firm’s Asheville office, will be a member of the panel discussion along with Jay Norris, NCASI president and manager of claims at Duke Energy Corporation; Jon Yuhas, risk manager at The Roberts Company; Don Carter, NCASI treasurer and vice-president of human resources at Columbia Forest Products; and Brandi Howell, an associate at Franklin & Prokopik in Herndon, Virginia. Mr. Hayes is well-suited to the topic at hand of Comp Across State Lines, having bar admission and extensive litigation experience in both North and South Carolina. Mr. Hayes is also active with the National Workers’ Compensation Defense Network (NWCDN).
